Prompt: Body integration. This year, when did you feel the most integrated with your body? Did you have a moment where there wasn’t mind and body, but simply a cohesive YOU, alive and present?
On Day 10 of #reverb10, I wrote about keeping my gym membership after I lost my job as the wisest decision I made this year. My response to today’s prompt is definitely connected. The time when I feel most integrated with my body is when I step onto the eliptical for a workout.
Now that I’m going to the gym after work, it’s often a struggle to convince myself to get there. Part of me would rather go home and relax after a long, exhausting day. But, even on the days when I want to go the least, as soon as I step onto that machine and get my arms and legs moving, I’m glad to be there. It’s one of the only times my mind is quiet and totally concentrated on the task at hand.
The ten minute walk home from the gym is like my cool down, and it’s during that time that I always take a deep breath and realize how much better I feel after a workout, how glad I am that I went.
