I’m participating in #reverb10, an awesome project where bloggers are reflecting on 2010 and looking forward to 2011. You can read my response to yesterday’s prompt here. This is the one for today:
Writing. What do you do each day that doesn’t contribute to your writing — and can you eliminate it?
The one thing I do that definitely doesn’t contribute to my writing is over think. Like Matt, and many others, I often second guess my posts before clicking publish. If I start to worry about a post, and how people will receive it, my mind goes crazy with “what ifs” and doubts. The truth is, as much as I do want other people to get something out of everything I write, first and foremost, I write for myself because I love expressing myself in written words. I’ve found that my best writing, and most well-received posts, are the ones that truly come from the heart. It doesn’t matter if I’m writing about “trendy” topics, if I get one comment or 20, or if anyone RTs my links, as long as I believe in and feel good about the things I’ve written. In 2011, I’m going to make a serious effort to write more from the heart and not think so much. What about you?
